| So there I have it finally: the 2nd Stillbirth full length CD. Owing to Lucas who has sent it to me for free I am now (hopefully) able to come into the enjoyment of examining the silverling from these German brutal whippersnappers. Thanks again very much! Which is noticeable to me first is that the lyrics are often in German language and for sure not to be taken seriously in any way. I am not a fan of such lyrics like for example at "Steuerklasse 1 Und Keiner Sagt Danke" and I never will be... thus the guys have a small flaw from my side yet... but maybe the music will change that. "Plakative Aggression" has been professionally unclasped at all: a 2 site booklet, the inlay with nice Hawaii-background for the CD and a red frog on the CD. The cover artwork is kept simplistic and I don't like it too much personally, but in the end the music is what counts and we dedicate us to this in the following now. I'm listening to this CD for the first time while I'm writing here and I recognize the following immediately: these guys are a dab hand at their instruments. I like twisted Brutal Death and here I really get twisted Death-Grind without an end. Spaced riffing, blatant song structures and here and there a great brutal slam riff as well. Right now "Steuerklasse 1 Und Keiner Sagt Danke" goes straight to the end with such a slam riff. Also slam riffs like in "Kick Da Shit Outta Your Face" are really good stuff. More of this! In parts the riffing reminds me of Bands like Cephalic Carnage or fractional even of Infested. Partially really cool musical stuff what you get offered here. One thing is clear: the influences of Stillbirth are manifold...you can hear anything from Death Metal over Grind right up to jazzy or even slightly punk parts. This CD definitely delivers variation until now. They also didn't forget to add some blast-parts and so the one or other fast or twisted riff gets supported by the drum sound very well. Here and there some Intros or Samples are mixed in to keep the whole thing refreshed. The production is fitting well: fat guitars, good blasting drums and the vocals are mixed well also. So, all in all everything is great? Unfortunately not... since the often used shout vocals which can be understood sometimes are nothing for me. Strange vocal-lines with such "funny" texts sadly becloud my listening pleasure. I can't do anything with vocal-arrangements like in "Stoner Boner" from 0:29 on and I would prefer for example a good frog noise here. On the other hand the used frog noise is absolutely ok and the parts in which it is used are often great. For the future I would like less of those experimental "shout parts" (see "Stoner Boner") and something else than fun lyrics (in case of doubt one could overlook this under condition 1) and then Stillbirth would definitively hit my taste. So for me remains as a résumé: musically absolutely great stuff in the direction of Cephalic Carnage with some other influences that make a lot of fun but unfortunately the lyrics and the vocals are except for the frogs and some shouts not my cup of tea. Definitely check out Stillbirth and build your own opinion; it is for sure no wasted time because one thing this music for sure is not: boring or imitated! |
