| Dysentery Since 2002 the five members of Dysentery from the USA released among two demos this part of the split with Gutrot called "Excuciatingly Euphoric Torment" (a title I'll probably never memorize). Playing a little slower, they bring along enough musicianship and deep vocals to impress the listener. Remarkable is the dominance of the guitars, which is especially audible when there are some slower passages. Of course, there are a couple of blast beats too. The production is a little bit better than the one of Gutrot here since there is a better balance between the instruments and the vocals. Lyrically, they focus more on blasphemy than on splatter and gore, nothing out of the ordinary but still good. The brutal tune continued by Gutrot on the following six tracks has been set in a very good way here already. Gutrot Following the Dysentery part Gutrot hailing from cold Warren, Michigan put after without any mercy. These guys especially like to play Brutal Death Metal of the roughest kind, which they do pretty convincing. Here you get six times the full power in your face and it's just a hell of a lot of fun. Concerning the totally guttural vocals, the very fast guitar play and the snare-dominated drumming the whole battle pallet is offered, which the bent fan can wish itself . This is the real deal for true brutal death metal fans. But it is not just all about brutality, they also care for intelligent songwriting, a big plus for Gutrot. Because this way it's always fun to listen to this part over and over again. As a little bonus, there is a cover version of "Raped In The Back Of A Van" originally performed by Last Days of Humanity, which is very good and ideal for explaining a noob the difference between awesome goregrind and awesome brutal death. Regarding the tracks, there are the usual slaughter themes with slight porno attitudes, which is nothing special as I've seen much worse stuff (if you know what I mean). The cover artwork is just average, but has its memorable charm and a certain recognizing value . Regarding to the production, there's not much bad to say here, my only criticism would be that the drums are to dominating sometimes; otherwise they did a good job. Conclusion: This split is recommended for fans of the very brutal kind of death metal with a balance between slow and fast tracks, a decent production and a bloody punch of the most pompous death metal. This is a sure thing, buy it. |
