Wow not that's what I call a heavy surprise. So far I had always my problems with stuff coming from Russia, but now I've been disabused. Katalepsy this troop is called and showed me through a massive punch in the face that Russians still have plenty of grey matter and that there are not only such sleeping pill Death Metal bands like for example Mortem. What makes Katalepsy different from other combos out of the Russian division is the fact that they absolutely not sound like Russian Death Metal. If one wouldn't know it better one could think that this is another brutal band coming from the USA because the US-style is exactly what Katalepsy are celebrating on their first full length album called "Musick Brings Injuries". With 7 tracks and a total runtime of nearly 25 minutes this album is for sure not really long, but the vehemence and the brutality you can find on this CD is really incredible and considering the fact that this band is still a very young one on a amazing high professional level. Already the first track "Gialo" is a real bomb of a track and is shredding your head away or at least splitting him into two pieces. But also the following 6 tracks from those 2 tracks are cover versions are not disappointing in any way. An interesting fact on this album is that they alternate on the vocals. So one can find the glorious guttural vocals of singer Nikita on the tracks 1 - 4 and on track 7 while one listen to the friendly gargling voice of singer Mirus on the tracks 5 and 6. Which vocals you'll like more in the end is really a personal matter of opinion, however it can be said that there are no really big important differences between these two maniacs. Both are gargling very delightful and bring the aggressiveness in the tracks more clearly to the appearance as it anyway is already the case through the rattling blast beat drum sound. But not only blast beat parts are offered here, no also mid-tempo passages are to be found often and invite to a pit through their pretty strong TX Death Metal style slamming riffs. But let's say it clear here: this is not another band trying to copy Devourment, because Katalepsy have their own style and are showing this style explicit in songs like "Sluggish Granial Grinding" or "Consuming The Abyss". Sure all these TX bands had some influences on this band, but this isn't really something new in these days. Beneath 5 own tracks (from which my favorite is "Gialo") one gets as already mentioned two covered tracks blasted around the ears. The first track is called "Rabid" and has originally been performed by US band Mortician. Compared to this cover the original version however is really sucking in my opinion. Besides "Gialo" this is one of those tracks that have been selected after listening to the whole CD several times. Just fucking great! The second cover at the end of this CD that is not really fitting my taste is simple called "S.O.D." which stands for "Symphony Of Destruction" and displays a cover version of Megadeth. Sure this cover version is also played very well, but overall the Mortician cover is better. The whole CD has been optically refined completely through Phlegeton Art Studio (Wormed, Avulsed, Disgorge Mex) with a fitting layout and the thereto matching sick cover artwork. If you are into TX Death Metal you should have listened to Katalepsy by all means, because after some big disappointments like Cephalotripsy or Condemned "Musick Brings Injuries" is a really refreshing album and at the same time one of the best so far released CDs on the Brutal Slam Death Metal sector.
