| I think everybody has seen footage of native people, may it be on TV or in a magazines. You know what I mean, blacks or Asians dancing around a fire in the middle of the night while singing some tribal songs (sounds like I cliché but it's mostly the truth). Now imagine giving the same natives ecstasy and body parts which they use to destroy not just themselves but everything in a one hundred meter perimeter, while articulating sounds with a voicebox sounding like a dying pig. Multiply all this with eight and you get THE native massacre. However, these three natives who call themselves Divine Purulence don't come from Africa or Indochina, but from Oklahoma, USA. Nevertheless they know how to create primitive, chaotic and destructive music. What I recognized first while hearing this CD was the drumming. It is not really faster than other bands and not "Chad-Walls-Fast" at all, but because of the rapid irregular tempo changes it just sounds vile and brutal. The deep guitars are more background sound, primary they're used to play simple lines to underline the speed. The vocals on the other hand are like the drums an elementary part of the archaic sound, executed by Mike "Necolagnia" Stinski and Chris "Putrid" Poplin (yes, they all have such pretty nicknames here). I personally am a big fan of dual-vocals as long as they are used balanced. And that is the case here as well: first we have the rough guttural grunting which is common in the genre and then there is a brawly voice, which doesn't sound very screamingly but contrasts its guttural partner very fitting. But from the music to the design: everybody wondering about who this ugly guy on the cover is, it's the serial killer Gary Ridgway, also known as "The Green River Killer". This is, by the way, the lyrical scheme of the three garbage shredders. Every song is dedicated to another maniac, what I personally don't find bad at all. This has in the end also functioned well with Gorerotted. About the production it can be said anyway that this is a great progress towards their demo, because the sound is clean and stunning. Everybody who can't get of brutal, confusing and unstructured music is recommended to get this CD and slip for 24 minutes into the mind of these half native brutal Death Metal-profilers. At the end a little extra info: There exists a video for the song "Blowtorch Lobotomy" which can be viewed on a very well known video upload platform. |
