| Well so this is it, the album "everyone is talking about", according to the statement from the immediately remaining label Grindethic Records. Like in 2004 the newest work in 2007 from the out of the close range of Berlin coming band Defeated Sanity is released under the same flag. But comparing it with "Prelude To The Tragedy" a lot of things have changed. Was the first work totally fitting on the pure technical Death Metal style you'll now experience an astonishing surprise on "Psalms Of The Moribund", because in comparison here they laid less value on the technical aspects than on a good portion of slam death. At this point I can calm down all sickos who liked Defeated Sanity because of their technical abilities, these are also existing in 2007 and are not leaving wishes open. Lost and partly chaotically sounding riffs are also to be found here again and are well mixed with the newly added amount of slam riffs, so that one can talk about an absolutely well done balance here. Actually this album should already have been released to Christmas in 2006; however, this appointment could not be kept on the basis of some smaller problems as well as the occasionally running search for a spare bassist. In Jacob Schmidt from Cerebric Turmoil (a well talented newcomer band from Berlin, the author) they found him and continued to finish this album. Like everyone thought and hoped the album has become a very great one, but with some little surprises. First there are the already mentioned slam riffs. These let Defeated Sanity's newest work seem a little bit slow, but also more grooving than the predecessor from 2004 has been. Occasionally there is the one or other position where the gas pedal has been stepped to the maximum, often accompanied by those beloved technical riffs for which the band is known and through which they became with stood off one of the best Brutal Death Metal bands from Germany in the scene. The sound is massive for mostly the whole time so that you can hear the guitars and the bass and feel them straight to the core. Sometimes it's becoming a little bit to massive so that there is a little buzzing to notice, which is not really disturbing at all and only appears for 1 or 2 times. Apart from that the rest is remaining very understandably and neither a disagreeable rushing nor other uninvited effects accompany the total of 9 tracks on this album. Therefore a pretty much more guttural voice accompanies the events on "Psalms Of The Moribund". On "Prelude Of The Tragedy" there have been more normal growls, but here you'll be confronted with some kind of Disgorge (us) meets Liturgy vocal combination from Jens Staschel who is removing the previous singer Mark Keller who has left the band and is doing one hell of a job here. Beneath the also out of Germany coming band Despondency I didn't listened to such brutal vocals very often. What they are delivering here is absolutely suspected of reference. Also this band has not to hide when talking about the drum sound. Lille Gruber (Sinners Bleed) is doing a very solid job behind the drums and is also standing pate for most of the tracks on this CD. The whole thing is rounded off with a nice layout done by Tom Grindethic and a cover that has been done by someone called Ray and colored by Tom and showing us some kind of suction courteously entity with many human remains. Reminds me of a tornado a little bit exactly like the music on this album. But this is still not everything you'll be able to find on "Psalms Of The Moribund". The band could not be taken it to include a very well done multimedia part which attends with 2 desktop wallpapers in 4 different sizes, 1 Mp3 track for "Prelude To The Tragedy" as well as 2 live video clips filmed at the Drachten Deathfest which are available in MPG and also WMV format. The whole multimedia part is put under with a sample from a song of the "Psalms Of The Moribund" CD, which is not repeating after playing completely. Everything sounds very miraculous up to here. But as it is mostly the case you'll also have to lower one's sights on the new Defeated Sanity a little bit. There is a not really gigantic runtime of just 29 minutes, and also there is some kind of monotonous in the vocals, like we could already experience through bands like Cephalotripsy or Condemned. But on the just announced bands it has been a lot more extreme than it could ever be the case here. Who can see over these two small not really counting points (and truly who isn't able to do this) and cannot be disturbed through a light hum appearing sometimes from time to time can expect with "Psalms Of The Moribund" one of the best albums from the German-speaking sector as well as from the topically running year 2007 which has to all abundance been mastered by Robe K. from Disavowed and should definitely be on a top position on your shopping list. |
