Oh the church bells are ringing here again. Is it already Sunday again? Highly unlikely, or have I confused this CD here with the ultra brutal "Dawn Of Ash" record from Liturgy maybe? As well wrong but it seems like that there is more than one band outside, which got a preference for church bells. Yes, both bands have an intro which sounds very similar, but Coming Fall doesn't fit in the same category. Well if you've never heard the name Coming Fall before then congratulation because you're not alone. The five Saxons were unfortunately not really able to call that much attention so far. The only thing here which doesn't make the band unknown and mysterious to me is that a band member also played in the Black/Thrash band Charon. To put the band here in a genre category they play Old School Death Metal mixed up with some Black Metal. At some parts when they play some oriental styled melodies, which always remind me of Nile. But they're not able to play on the same high speed and technical level as the American Egyptologist's. But come on, how many bands are really able to play like them? Besides that, I don't think that they are really anxious to play like Nile. Even though they play on high speed levels and blasting through many songs. But there is always enough room for variations, which you can hear sometimes through sluggish and almost doom-like parts. You can hear this Doom influence especially on the song "Final Sacrifice". One point, which directlly attracted my attention, is the very, very good soundproduction on "Kill The Lights". The band recorded their album at Fredman studios, where Metal giants like Opeth or Dimmu Borgir recorded their songs too already. The sound is really brilliant detailed but still crushing and it really makes the sound production of more famous bands look like crap. The best example for this point is the shitty production of Morbid Angel's "Heretic" album. In technical view this band performs on a high level. "Kill The Lights" won't blow away utter technical guitar wankery freaks, but they're able to play technical as a mature accurate well attuned band. The melodic elements on this album are sounding also very decent. Coming Fall really did a good job when they play their catchy melodies. But I won't label them as a Melodic Death Metal band. In my opinion you can compare the sound with Scent of Flesh from Finland. So you can be sure that they're still heavy and brutal and sound like a crazy mix of Incantation, Scent Of Flesh, old Vital Remains and Nile mixed with some raw Black Metal in their most crushing moments. In view of the Black Metal influence I can't reproach the band for this because mostly they've taken that influence to create a dark atmosphere or they've used Black Metal screams at some parts. Well they have also put a great instrumental song on the "Kill The Lights" album. On this instrumental and on the following track "From The Summit Of The Pyramid" you can hear the Nile influence again. But they never lose their own sound. I really have no idea if the lyrics are also about the ancient Egyptian culture because unfortunately I had no lyrics in the booklet of my copy of this CD. I must confess that I was really impressed about the high quality level of this album. Many other Death Metal bands which are more famous in the scene can learn a lot from this CD. The album has been released in a nice digipak packaging and with a playtime of nearly 55 minutes you can't do anything wrong here. If you're into varied Death Metal with Black and Melodic influences which is still sounding brutal then you must grab this record.
