| Again another band coming from Colombia, that tries to sound exactly like its extremely successful Brutal Death Metal fellow-countrymen Internal Suffering or Purulent, just to earn some extra money pretty fast to enlarge the own personal cocaine plantation? First of all I don't think that one can get rich through playing Brutal Death Metal (except you wear an emo-haircut and your band is called All Shall Perish) and besides that I have the luck that Ancient Necropsy is a solo project, that is totally against drugs and doesn't sound extremely like Internal Suffering at all. Yes, you heard right, all-rounder Ivan from Ancient Necropsy is a solo artist and has played all the instruments that are present on this album. On the already third full length album one is not departing from the previous path and everybody who has grappled with this band in the apron should know what this means. Exactly, in particular extremely fast gurgling Death Metal in the veins of bands like Viral Load, Insidious Decrepancy or old Ingurgitate. My own personal impression of "Apocalyptic Empire" is fallen out quite positive. I find it especially commendable that the constitution of the music structures here is appealing more diversified and also substantially more catchy without however sounding to much like mainstream radio music (whereby Ancient Necropsy in the radio, that is really worth a consideration). That everything here is sounding better now is because that the riffs done by Ivan work less chaotic and the way of playing is coming across more structured. On "Apocalyptic Empire" it gives less riffs as on the previous album "Deformed King's Mummification" but therefore they are more massive and harder. One is superior partly to some US colleagues in many respects. Especially when some clean and melodic parts are standing out of the thrashing. One of my favourite songs is for sure "Enemies Incineration". Rather brutal but still fucking catchy; definitely one of the highlights of this album. Every once in a while there is some dark atmosphere arising while listening, especially when one or two guitar effects are surfacing. Such a thing would never come into the mind of many genre representatives. Unfortunately not all songs are able to hold this high quality level. One or two snore-songs are also near by. Anyhow I have to confess that "Apocalyptic Empire" is probably the album from Ancient Necropsy. It is much more variable and catchier as before, but still rough and also brutal. I'm especially attired by Ivan's congenial vocal style. Gorgeous guttural vocals that remind me of Death Metal magnitudes like Disgorge (USA). One thing here that should be improved soon is the guitar sound. This one is sounding a little bit thin and weakly. The many guitar riffs could operate a lot better if an official better sound would be present. Also the assignment of a bass guitar would lend the whole thing a little bit more pressure. This is definitely a good Death Metal album coming from Colombia after a long time. Completely clearly this is not a band that will redefine the genre or set new yardsticks, but fans of guttural Death Metal slaughter should really give this album a chance. |
