Gore: Hi John, how are you doing? Thanks for agreeing to do this interview. Tell us something about the band history and the current line-up.
John: Hello Markus and thanx you're interested about Inveracity. Well, Inveracity was formed back in 1998 by Vagelis and Antonis. Then vocalist Dionisis and bassist Lefteris joined the band and they released a demo called "Defeated Human Raped". Then Dionisis left the band and new vocalist Marios joined them. As a result they released a 4 tracks split with Insision. After that 1st full length came called "Circle Of Perversion". Then Marios left the band and new vocalist George came. Nothing happened and after some years Lefteris left the band and he was replaced by me. With this line-up we released the new album "Extermination Of Millions".
Gore: Ok first of all I want to know, why Marios the singer of the first full length album "Circle Of Perversion" has left the band and has been replaced by George.
John: Marios left the band cause of some problems with his time. He couldn't follow the band after some time so George came to sing for Inveracity. Besides that, they both are very good singers and nice persons.
Gore: The first album has been released on the Brodequin label Unmatched Brutality Records. But the second full length album "Extermination Of Millions" has been released on label Unique Leader records. Tell us the reasons for the label change. Which things are better for you guys now on the new record label?
John: The reason is simple. A much better chance for the band. Now we have more promotion so our music can be listened everywhere. But both labels are great with serious guys working on them.
Gore: What are the musical differences between the first full length album and the new one? Tell us something about the worldwide responses of the new Album.
John: I think that Extermination is more technical than Circle but we kept this tight feeling in the Death Metal we play. I think also that Extermination is darker than Circle and more mature you can say. Sound changed and the production is better now. George's voice fits better in this musical changes Inveracity made as he's less guttural giving the "unholy" feeling in the band. We had a great feedback from the people listened to us. Many Emails and messages telling us some killer words about Extermination. We thank everyone who understood what Inveracity wanted to say with the new album.
Gore: Now that you are signed on Unique Leader Records, will you guys tour in the USA with some other UL bands? If you had the chance to choose some bands for a tour, with which bands you guys would like to play a tour and when will the Death Metal freaks in Germany have the next chance to see you guys live on stage?
John: Right now Inveracity have some military obligations. This period we can't play live shows and staff. But when the band is finished with all that we will hit the road for sure, as we have to promote our new album. Bands that I like to play with are bands like Immolation, Suffocation, Decrepit Birth, Deeds Of Flesh, Defeated Sanity, Despondency and so on...
As for Germany I don't know what to say. In the first chance we will hit your country.
Gore: On the Inveracity page of metal-archives.com, some people have alleged that you and your band members have to join the Greek army or otherwise you guys will go to prison. Is that the truth or is this just some stupid rumor? If it's true, will you guys be able to work on new songs or play some gigs at the time you're in the army?
John: Haha. No it's not a lie. I finished my duties in the army some years ago. Now the other 3 have to go. Yep it's true that if you don't go in the army then you have some problems with the law. You know here in Greece it's obligatory to go in the army for one year. That's the reason now Inveracity are out for one year. And no you can't do anything about that. No live shows, no nothing.
Gore: Please tell us something about the Greek Death Metal scene, at the moment it seems like your scene grows stronger than ever before. There are a few great Greek Death Metal bands like Sickening Horror, The Circle Of Zaphyan or Extreme Violence for example. Do you have some recommendations of some good Death Metal bands from Greece, which we should check out?
John: Yep I have to say that Greek Death Metal scene grows stronger. Some years before you couldn't see anything in the scene, but now some bands like those you said make great work on the scene. Sickening Horror kicks some serious ass and Extreme Violence are amazing as well. Vulnus are outstanding as well. A band I like now in our scene is Human Rejection with a more slam Death Metal feeling. Also Cease Of Breeding trying now to make some good work out here as well as Erectus and believe me there are some bands that they haven't been listened yet and they are killer. In time their music will reach the surface for sure. But here in Greece we have member problems. Specially drummer problems. There are bands here with unbelievable songs and they don't have a drummer to play the songs. That's a crime for me. Many good bands stay back for that.
Gore: That's really sad, but with George Kollias (Nile, Ex-Sickening Horror) the Greece dm scene got a real talented drummer. Ok next question. Which Death Metal albums have you bought recently? Have you checked out the new Immolation album "Shadows In The Light"? It's a really amazing album and if you like the band you should check it out.
John: I recently bought Defeated Sanity's new album. Can't say anything. These guys are crazy. I listened also to Suffocate Bastard's album. Great and fast Brutal Death Metal. An amazing band. Also one album I liked very much was Condemned's album. Awesome Death Metal. Now I'm on new Pyrexia's record. I like Immolation since I was very young. It's nothing about Immolation that I don't like. Their new album is also killer.
Gore: Now let's talk about the lyrics on both albums .Where have you guys taken the inspiration for such sick lyrics? Are you guys watching horror & splatter movies the whole day? haha
John: Hahaha. No we're not watching splatter all day. We like them but not all the day. As for the lyrics I'm not the appropriate guy to tell you about them because most of them are Vagelis' and Lefteris'. But I can assure you that they came from the deeps of their hearts based on hatred against the entire world's shit. I feel the same way so I can say that with surety.
Gore: Ok back to the album "Extermination Of Millions". George Prasinis did the great artwork. He also did an amazing artwork for Spawn Of Possession's "Cabinet" album. Tell us the idea behind the cover artwork. Who did the artwork of the first full length album "Circle of Perversion"?
John: Yes George is a great artist and you can see that. The idea behind the new album's artwork is what the album's title says. Extermination, chaos, pain and all these feelings. It's about an era where humanity will no longer exist, besides the strong ones. The "Circle Of Perversion" artwork is made by Kostas Vaxevanos a good friend of ours.
Gore: Now here's a special question (I'm also a bass player haha). You're playing bass in Inveracity, do you have any favorite bass players? How long do you play bass? How often do you practice?
John: Yep I like many bass players and they have influenced me as well. First of all my favorite player is my teacher Giotis Kiourtsoglou. He showed me the way. He's a god. I also like Jaco Pastorius, Alex Webster, Sean Malone, Steve DiGiorgio, Charles Mingus, Justin Chancellor and many more... I started playing bass before 11 years and I practice almost every day about 2-6 hours depending on the mood. Last 6 years I practice in guitar too. It helps me writing riffs with the logic of a guitar player. In my opinion you have to have a spherical view of the instruments and how they sound if you want to write from inside your heart.
Gore: Please tell us your top 10 of your favorite Death Metal albums of all time.
John: Difficult question. In no order...
Gateways To Annihilation - Morbid Angel
Legion - Deicide
Close To A World Below - Immolation
Despise The Sun - Suffocation
Sound Of Perseverance - Death
Hypocrisy - Hypocrisy
In Dark Purity - Monstrosity
