from left to right: Josh Welling (Bass); Sean Kennedy (Guitar); Andy Kirk (Drums); Obie Flett (Vocals)

Gore: Hey Obie, first of all I want to thank you for your time. Ok let's begin with a short band history and the current lineup.

Obie: Inherit Disease came together in 2002, when old friends Andy Kirk (ex-drums) and Sean Kennedy (ex-guitar) met Josh Welling (bass) in the metal section of a local record store. After jamming a few times, we found that the chemistry was good between us. And we immediately began writing brutal music. I came in later, and put the finishing touches on the band's sound. We've recently had the departure of drummer Andy, and guitarist Sean. They have now been replaced with drummer Dan Osborn, and guitarist Derek de Roos. The band generally shares the same musical influences, ranging from old school death metal to sick-ass guttural shit.

Gore: Through "Procreating An Apocalypse" it's my first real contact with your band (sorry I've never heard from your band before) and I was really surprised about this stuff. It's a really good Death Metal debut, with some great songs on it. Tell us something about the worldwide responses, are you guys happy with the result???

Obie: Thanks man, this is the first time most people have heard our material. As far as the response, we get people who love it, and people who hate it. Probably like every other extreme metal act. We have fun doing this, and are stoked that Unique Leader gave us the chance to get our stuff out to people.

Gore: If I'm right Inherit Disease is signed on Unique Leader records at the moment, the label is also one of the finest Death Metal labels around. How Inherit Disease has become a member of the fast growing UL family? Do you have any idea how many copies of "Procreating An Apocalypse" were actually sold??

Obie: We played a few shows with Deeds Of Flesh. They were impressed with our playing, and after we sent them a few demos, they decided to put out our album. As far as the numbers go, I haven't seen anything yet.

Gore: Obie, your vocals on "Procreating An Apocalypse" are really brilliant, brutal and guttural as hell. They're reminding me on bands like Guttural Secrete and Retch. Which bands and singers have influenced your vocals and which bands have influenced the sound of Inherit Disease in general? Please tell us something about the lyrics on the album also.

Obie: Thanks bro! Guttural Secrete and Retch are both our good friends, and I look up to Blue and Justins vocals a lot. Some other influences are: Angel Ochoa (Condemned), Mike Majewski (Devourment), John Paoline (Mortal Decay), Wayne Knupp (Devourment), and Chalky (Psycroptic). Some influences on the band are: Suffocation, Immolation, Disgorge (US), Deeds Of Flesh, Mortal Decay, Akercocke, Odious Mortem, Gorgasm, Brodequin, and Enmity. The lyrics on the album are pretty random. Some lyrics are abstract, and some are completely in your face. I was experimenting with different subjects from elderly home torture, to world-ending diseases, to losing your mind to Alzheimer.

Gore: What is the idea behind the cover artwork Par Olofsson has done for you?

Obie: We wanted something apocalyptic, and I think the baby represents the innocence of mankind being shattered.

Gore: Have there been any problems etc during the whole recording process of "Procreating An Apocalypse" in any way? If yes, what kind of problems have it been, and how has your band managed to fix them?

Obie: We were really unprepared. It was our first time in a studio, and we could've saved a lot of time if we had of done a few things before we went in. Like having the songs tabbed out that caused confusion about some parts. But Kip Stork (Avalon Studios) is a really cool guy, and he was a big help.

Gore: How does it come that Jacoby and Erik have done some guest vocals on your first full length? Has it been their decision to do guest vocals because Erik is the Unique Leader owner or have you asked them to be on this album?

Obie: They live in the same town that we recorded in. So periodically, they would stop in and hang out for a while. So we just decided to ask them, and they were happy to do it.

Gore: So do you have any news about some amazing bands from Cali like Disgorge, Severed Savior, Odious Mortem, Decrepit Birth etc.? Do you have any recommendations of some Cali underground Death Metal bands??

Obie: All I know is the new Odious Mortem is gonna kill, from what I've heard of it. Those fuckers shred! And there cool as hell too. Some new bands from Cali I like are: Condemned, Banishment, Cephalotripsy and Divaricate.

Gore: Are you into other music besides Death Metal or Metal in general?

Obie: I mostly listen to the brutal stuff. But at work I listen to classic rock. Sometimes I'll throw on some Alice In Chains, some butt rock, even a little emo stuff.

Gore: When will the Death Metal freaks in Europe have the chance to see you guys live on stage? Especially some gigs in Germany, maybe at some German Death/Grind festivals like the Fuck The Commerce or the Deathfeast Open Air, just to name a few.

Obie: We want to get there as soon as we can! There would be nothing more exciting that touring. Europe would be my choice.

Gore: I have seen, that Inherit Disease is confirmed for the Cali Deathfest, with many other great bands, is that the first time that you guys play on such a big festival? What was the best gig you ever had with your band?

Obie: We played the Gathering Of The Sick last year, and that was a fun fest. I think the biggest show we played was in Hollywood with the bloodletting tour last year with Deeds, Decrepit Birth, Odious Mortem and Vile.

Gore: Please tell us your current top 10 playlist.

Obie:

Inveracity - Extermination Of Millions
