Suffocated Brain: Hey Chris. What's up? All cool at you and Begging For Incest? For our readers who don't know you yet let us know a bit about the band, the history and the current line-up please.
Chris: Yeah, all cool at me, and regarding the Band naturally too. We founded the Band as a pure fun project, in the end of 2006. We wanted to release a Demo with pure Devourment Slam and, than, instantly disband again. But, at the Rehearsals we noticed fast, that we fit together perfectly. Songs were fast developed and the first Demo was recorded in the rehearsal room. They were sold at our first Shows and as well later offered for free download. After that, the Songs for our Debut CD were written and recorded at a friend's studio. But some day however we then thought that we finally need a bassist and we are now more than happy with Tom. He inserts himself and is humanly very correct as well! Begging For Incest are: Chris - Vocals, Jan - Guitar, Tom - Bass, Max - Drums Suffocated Brain: You recently released your debut CD. How have the feedbacks been until now? Chris: Until now, the Feedback was throughout positive, what really surprised me. Also the bonus track of the CD, a Goregrind song in the style of Rompeprop, was more liked than we expected it. Suffocated Brain: Are you satisfied with your newest CD? Chris: I think we are all satisfied! The sound turned out really very phat and Fernando (Pathologically Explicit Records) really supported us with releasing the CD. Suffocated Brain: You had released a Demo before your Debut-CD, right? How would you say have you changed musically since then? Chris: Compared to our Demo we became a multiple more varied and foremost more technical. Some riffs on "Awaiting The Fist "really cannot be compared with the "power chord-jerking-off" from the Demo. Anyhow we remained true to our style and only refined it. We are not Begging For Devourment anymore, we are Begging For Incest! Suffocated Brain: What is the main goal of your music? Chris: We want that people are coming to our shows, party with us and totally go berserk in the pit. When people say to us that they're totally done from one of our shows then we have done everything right. Suffocated Brain: You play very slam and breakdown oriented Death Metal. Is this the music you listen to privately as well? Does Hardcore have an Influence on your music? Chris: Yes! Everyone in the band loves Slam Death Metal. Hardcore is brought into the band and/or music mainly through my person. The others do like the music as well, but do not "celebrate" it as much as I do. Suffocated Brain: I think you didn't hear this question for the first time but: how did it come to your band name? Chris: Haha yes. Together with Jan I thought about what could be a handy and also provoking name. We thought about some others but finally remained with Begging For Incest. Suffocated Brain: Are your lyrics misogynic or how shall we understand the album title and the cover artwork? Chris: On the old tracks and also on the debut CD there are no lyrics used. You would not be able to understand them anyway and because of that we directly left them out. Meanwhile we now have lyrics with the common themes violence, death, violence. There are also lyrics dealing with more pretentious content about the theme "death". Suffocated Brain: Who made the cover artwork? What do you want to express with it? Chris: The idea for the cover artwork we have converted all together. We didn't want some standard gore shit for the cover which is pretty cool indeed but we wanted to approach more subtle here. "Awaiting The Fist" and the artwork say it all. Suffocated Brain: How has your live experience been until now? You have played some gigs with many Hardcore bands as well. You feel connected with this scene too? Chris: Playing live is great every time. When people go crazy to your own songs it is the best feeling you can experience as a musician in my opinion. We had all types of shows, at some nearly nothing was going on and on others you have been totally blown away. We play a lot with Hardcore and Deathcore bands because we have many danceable parts and because of bands like Waking The Cadaver the Slam Death Metal gained a foothold in the Hardcore Scene as well. I for myself am happy to watch both "scenes" going crazy. Suffocated Brain: I know you are a Deathcore fan as well. What do you think about the heavily growing Deathcore scene? Chris: I've a divided opinion here. Some bands I like and others I like not. Bands like Bring Me The Horizon for example are in my opinion simply bad and overrated and because of all those trend-emos slipping into the scene through this directly every Deathcore band directly becomes automatically stamped as bad. You only have to find the pearls. Suffocated Brain: What do you think are the reasons that bands like Infected Malignity change their musical direction so much? Chris: If you make music yourself you don't want to make the same stuff for 10 years even if I can only speak for myself here. I thought "The Malignity Born From Despair" was very great and I also think their new music is good. Infected Malignity still make brutal sounding Death Metal but in their own style. Suffocated Brain: A few little selection questions now (I know you like Hardcore as well) 01. Which band appeals to you the most: Cannibal Corpse or Death Before Dishonor? 02. What is better: Breakdown or Slam? 03. Which sort of beer is better: Beck's or Krombacher? Chris: 01. Cannibal Corpse!!! 02. Now that's a hard one. .. .. Slam. 03. Gilden Kölsch hahaha Suffocated Brain: I listen to your songs on MySpace over and over while I write. I think they're great. The production of the new songs is fucking heavy, who did it? Who and where did the mastering and mixing? Chris: We've recorded the CD at the Catharsis Studios in Cologne and a friend of us named Thomas Deutsch has done all the mixing stuff. Suffocated Brain: How does the songwriting work at you? Do you try to bring slams in your songs all the time or do you simply play straight on? Chris: Most of the time I'm writing riffs and then we try on them at the rehearsals until we get something that sounds good to us. That's all the magic haha. We are a good team here and complete us regarding ideas. Suffocated Brain: How would you describe your music for yourself? Chris: Slamming and also brutal. Suffocated Brain: Give us 3 good reasons that argue for buying your new CD. Chris: It is good music with a good sound. One affords us to produce new shirts etc. but foremost you are supporting our label! Suffocated Brain: What can we expect from you in future? More live-gigs and maybe also a new CD? Chris: We write Songs assiduously at the moment and have some ready as well and I think they're great. The reactions live have been very good as well every time. In next time there will be some shows and we are always happy about offers to play anywhere. Suffocated Brain: I think we come to the end of this Interview now. Thank you much for doing this Interview with me. The last words are yours... Chris: It was a very cool Interview! Thanks for the interest and support! Very nice that the Guttural Zine is not dying! |
